Then I actually had my own children. I still maintain some of these opinions. I’d like to think that if my kids ever directly tell me that they don’t want to wear something I’ve picked out, I will understand and find them something more comfortable. Right now, though, my children can’t tell me that. At 2 years old and 5 months old, they don’t yet have a strong sense of self, let alone a sense of style that is independent from the one I curate for them. As a result, I’ve found myself dressing them both up for the holidays this year — fancy wool coats, elf-inspired dresses, and cheerful onesies all included. I’ve also found myself feeling deeply apologetic to all the parents I may have once judged for doing the same.

At the festival, she also will sell swaddle blankets, some of which are made from bamboo cotton, which Huntley says “feels like butter.”
Sociopolitical intentions aside, there is a more immediate reason I dress my kids up sometimes. Quite frankly, it’s just fun. I cannot say the same about every element of having two daughters under 2. Some days, everything seems to go wrong. The little one will poop through all her clothes and bedding first thing in the morning while the big one throws her breakfast onto the dirty floor. My eldest will bite her sister’s toe, or my youngest will scratch her sister’s cheek. They will cry endlessly, for no discernible reason at all, until eventually I cannot help but join in. We will sit there, crying, amidst dishes that haven’t been washed in days and piles of toys that haven’t been picked up in even longer.

Bebe Fete When handbag designer Ivy Chen’s young son Mason was born with psoriasis, not only was the new mom applying steroid cream three times per day, but she was stressed out that the fabrication on most of his little onesies and tees were actually irritating him even more. "That’s when I decided to create bamboo cotton garments," Chen told us. "[Bamboo cotton] is anti-static so it won’t stick on skin. The line is all made in Canada, with a street style flare for all of the cool babies and their mommies." Partnering with graphic design Martin Bregman, the duo has created a line of must-have, black and white pieces with cheeky and chic.
“It was pretty awesome to watch the kids go into a room and pick out brand new jackets. They sent the first group in and these were kids who had never had a new jacket in their lives,” Boham said. “Not only that, there were a couple of kids who came up to us and said they had received their first new coat a few years ago and still have it. We have people who donate every year and each year we have received more coats. It feels like it’s a bit slower this year and maybe that’s due to the number of people affected by the fires and people have donated to that, but the feedback and support we have gotten has been awesome.”
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Americans send an additional 1 million tons of trash a week to our landfills over the holiday season. To help alleviate some of those items going to the landfill, Walking Mountains Science Center, Vail Honeywagon and the town of Avon are hosting the Post-Holiday Recycling Event this Saturday.
They’ll have one for use at the hospital, and make sure to have some, either purchased separately or sometimes sold as part of little newborn sets, for use at home. Have a few extras: The cotton fabric can get stretched out and need to be washed and dried again to be snug enough to stay on properly. And they can get spit-up on them.

If you buy only one coat, a parka is the most versatile piece that will take you from the classroom to the playground in style. A high-quality winter coat with built-in insulation and waterproofing is the one winter gear essential worth the splurge. Look for jackets with adjustable hoods, sealed or lined seams, waterproofing, reflective taping and insulating layers (many of which zip out for added versatility).
“Perfect sleep dress! The fabric is very soft and comfortable. The neck is sized just right to keep me warm (I do not like V-neck sleepwear because I get cold), and it is simple — no buttons or itchy lace, which I love! I bought a size up from what I would normally wear, for extra room and comfort.”
58. “The Plots Thicken” (Season 3, Episode 25)Sitcom families normally didn’t discuss where the husband and wife would ultimately be buried, but this episode is a good example of The Dick Van Dyke Show’s more sophisticated worldview as Rob and Laura’s parents argue over competing cemetery plots. Gets into some dark territory (a traumatized Ritchie asks, “Where’s Daddy going without you?”) before the reassuring conclusion.
An extreme example of a lightweight, breathable rain jacket is a line that Gore-Tex makes calls Shakedry. Instead of sandwiching the membrane between two layers, the outer layer of the jacket is the membrane itself—there’s no fabric covering it. It’s just a two layer jacket: a membrane, then an inner textile against your body.
