When Phyllis Parish watched the local news as a kid, she had no idea she would one day work for WRAL. Along with her role as director of local production, she leads one of the news station’s biggest fundraisers, Coats for the Children, which is celebrating 30 years of providing coats, hats and gloves to thousands of families. Parish, who plans to retire in March, shares how the campaign has changed over the years.

“We absolutely loved this costume! It fit well and true to size. My grandson got tons of oohs and aahs over his costume — it’s adorable! It’s fairly warm, but we lucked out with a cooler night for Halloween in Virginia. He still puts the ‘feet’ on and wears them for slippers sometimes. For Halloween, he wore shoes under the slippers — they just barely fit over them, but it worked for us since he was walking at an outside trunk-or-treat event.”

“I love this so much! It is very comfortable and soft. I did not realize that the under-bust lace part was see-through, but it doesn’t bother me. Have yet to wash it to see how it holds up, but it seems to be a well-made item. It is a nice length and not too tight. So it is modest enough to wear as a standard night gown but very pretty and elegant. Would love some more in other colors.”
