Sleeping bags like the “Bundle Me” are also problematic because the thick layer behind the back adds extra slack to the harness.

If the weather calls for it, you can throw a blanket over your child. Dr. Baer says that it’s usually easiest to keep the legs warm with a blanket, because kids often push blankets off their chests (again, layer their torsos to say warm). Alternatively, you can put their bulky winter coat on backwards, with the back of the coat facing outward, and their arms through the sleeves — after your child is securely buckled in.

With some of our giant toy retailers no longer in existence, Target has become the natural next step for toy-hungry kids and parents, especially since their selection is so extensive. Consider shopping their website for some of the year’s hottest finds, like the JoJo Siwa Be You Sing Along Boombox with Dual Microphones. JoJo everything has sold out across the board at other stores, but Target manages to keep it in stock.

That led to the creation of the “Coats for Kids” drive to gather new and gently-used winter coats to be distributed to children through the Boys & Girls Club in Eureka. Over the course of four years, word has spread and now Boham gathers hundreds of coats each year. This year is no different.

If you’re caught out and about without spare clothes in that diaper bag, it isn’t any fun. Throw at least one extra swaddling blanket in there, too, which can be used as a spit rag, changing pad, actual blanket, sun shade, or hey, even a little baby makeshift toga in a pinch.

An extreme example of a lightweight, breathable rain jacket is a line that Gore-Tex makes calls Shakedry. Instead of sandwiching the membrane between two layers, the outer layer of the jacket is the membrane itself—there’s no fabric covering it. It’s just a two layer jacket: a membrane, then an inner textile against your body.
